Welcome to the Formation Evaluation Society of Malaysia (FESM) – a community of experts dedicated to advancing the science and practice of formation evaluation, enhancing industry knowledge, and driving innovation in subsurface exploration.
Founded in 1959, SPWLA provides information services to scientists in the petroleum and mineral industries, serves as a voice of shared interests in our profession, plays a major role in strengthening petrophysical education, and strives to increase the awareness of the role petrophysics has in the Oil and Gas Industry and the scientific community.
The FESM is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the advancement of the science of petrophysics and formation evaluation, through well logging and other formation evaluation techniques and to the application of these techniques to the exploitation of gas, oil and other minerals.
With nearly 150 talks in 25 years, monthly seminars, and grandmaster classes organized, we provide unparalleled opportunities for knowledge sharing and professional development. In 2024, we’re proud to host a topical conference that will further explore cutting-edge advancements in subsurface exploration and evaluation.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors for 2024; Halliburton, SLB and Beicip-Franlab Asia, for their generous support. Their partnership helps make these initiatives possible and enables us to continue driving innovation and excellence in the field of formation evaluation.
The EAGE/FESM Conference on Petrophysics Meets Geoscience 2025, held in Kuala Lumpur, marked a significant milestone for the regional and international subsurface community. This comeback edition successfully reaffirmed the critical role of petrophysics in integrated geoscience workflows and subsurface decision-making.
Organised by the Formation Evaluation Society of Malaysia (FESM) — the local chapter of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) — in partnership with EAGE, the conference was revived and delivered within an ambitious eight-month timeframe. The conference attracted 320 participants from 25 countries, bringing together professionals from petrophysics, geoscience, reservoir engineering, and related disciplines.
Leadership, Technical Excellence, and Industry Support
The event was honoured by the presence of Mohd Nazlee Rasol, Vice President Development, PETRONAS, who served as Patron and delivered a keynote address emphasising the importance of translating subsurface understanding into tangible business value.
FESM extends its appreciation to Conference Chair Amran M Zakei and Co-Chair Dr. Sanjeev Rajput for their leadership, vision, and guidance throughout the planning and execution of the conference.
The success of the conference was further strengthened by the support of co-hosts SLB and Beicip-Franlab Asia, Silver Sponsor Halliburton, and participating exhibitors, whose contributions elevated the technical depth and overall quality of the event.
The conference would not have been possible without the dedication of the FESM Committee, whose commitment and teamwork were instrumental in delivering this major international event. Their efforts reflect FESM’s continued drive to serve the professional community and advance the discipline of petrophysics.
Advancing Petrophysics in the Region
For FESM, this conference represented more than a technical event. It was a clear statement of commitment to advancing petrophysics as an essential discipline in delivering accurate and robust subsurface insights. FESM remains dedicated to fostering strong collaboration across geoscience, engineering, and the wider subsurface community.
Building on the success of this conference, FESM will continue to develop platforms, technical exchanges, and professional opportunities that strengthen the petrophysics community across Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region, while promoting technical excellence and innovation. FESM extends its sincere appreciation to all contributors, participants, sponsors, and partners who made the EAGE/FESM Conference on Petrophysics Meets Geoscience 2025 a resounding success.
